News: Ed is SIMA Environmentalist Of The Year

"Eddie Vedder, perhaps best known for his musical talents, is also a notable force in the world of environmental advocacy. Vedder and his band, Pearl Jam, are active in many environmental causes - most notable to the surf industry are the fights to save Trestles and Hawaii's North Shore. Vedder supported the Surfrider Foundation by donating $1 from every ticket sold for Pearl Jam's L.A. shows in 2006 to the Save Trestles campaign through Pearl Jam's Vitalogy Foundation. In addition to the Save Trestles campaign, Vedder and Pearl Jam staged a concert on the North Shore of Hawaii in December 2006 to raise money for the North Shore Community Land Trusts' "Campaign for Pupukea Paumalu" to help save the North Shore from development. Not only is Eddie a talented musician, but a true surfer at heart and his efforts to protect our waves and environment are widely appreciated by the surf industry," said Paul Naude, chairman of the SIMA Environmental Fund Board of Directors and CEO of Billabong USA. "The battles to save Trestles and Pupukea Paumalu, both part of the industry's playground, are extremely important to surfers. Eddie has not only supported the fights monetarily, but perhaps more importantly by using his and Pearl Jam's influence to bring attention to the fights when attention was needed. Eddie rallies behind numerous environmental efforts and practices what he preaches. It is an honor for the surf industry to recognize this diligent environmentalist as SIMA Environmentalist of the Year."

News: Ed @ Rn'R Hall Of Fame, Lollapaloza Update

Lollapalooza Update:

"Pearl Jam will return to its Lollapalooza roots by serving as one of the headliners for the 2007 edition of the event, which will be held Aug. 3-5 in the city's Grant Park. The news was first reported by the Chicago Sun-Times and confirmed by sources to Billboard.com.
Pearl Jam's rise to fame was cemented by its performances on the 1992 Lollapalooza tour, which was concurrent with the ascent of its debut album, "Ten."
Frontman Eddie Vedder hails from the Chicago suburb Evanston and has frequently made special appearances solo and with the band in the Windy City. The Lollapalooza date is expected to be part of a handful of North American shows on the back of a previously announced European tour that begins June 8 in Lisbon."

Also:

"Several superstar artists have signed on to induct artists into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at a March 12 ceremony in New York. Jay-Z will induct Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, while Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder will induct R.E.M. and the Rolling Stones' Keith Richards will usher in the Ronettes. Patti Smith will be inducted by reclusive Rage Against The Machine vocalist Zach de la Rocha."

News: PJ To Rock Lollapalooza?

"The major headliner for year three of the retooled Lollapalooza concert will be none other than the band that became the breakout superstar of the old Lollapalooza back in 1992: Seattle's godfathers of grunge, Pearl Jam.
The three-day concert will take place in Grant Park from Aug. 3-5, and Lollapalooza promoters don't plan on announcing the 130-band lineup or putting tickets on sale for several weeks, until late March or early April. They declined to comment on any of the acts Wednesday.
Nevertheless, three concert industry sources confirmed that fans may expect Evanston native Eddie Vedder and his band to perform on Chicago's lakefront as part of a U.S. tour that will follow a European jaunt that has already been announced in June, and which includes several major music festivals."
